EUROPEAN FATWA COUNCIL FOR HALAL TRANSACTIONS
In the Islamic countries there are different Halal standard in use. There is JAKIM standard what is valid for Malaysia, MUI standard what is valid in Indonesia or UAE standard what is valid for Emirates. Recently the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) which is the second largest international organization in the world after the UN has also issued a Halal standard in order to cover the entire Islamic market.
However there are countries which accept OIC standard and others who follow their own regional standards. Iran is one of the countries which has implemented OIC standard like Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Syria, etc.
Inside Iran the Islamic Chamber Research & Information Center (ICRIC) is the official body who represent OIC standard. ICRIC together with Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture has established a new organization: HALAL WORLD INSTITUTE which is headed by Dr. Mohammed Reza Karbasi. According to the new system which is going to operate in Iran HALAL WORLD INSTITUTE is the official body to issue Halal certificates based on OIC standard.
European Fatwa Council for Halal Transactions is an Islamic Authority based in Wien which is recognized by Iranian Authorities and HALAL WORLD INSTITUTE as well. There is an agreement between the two institutes to establish a Certifying Body in Wien in order to audit European companies which are going to export to Iran. The name of the New company is OIC HALAL Co GmbH. In the future this new company will have right to audit European exporters under the supervision of HALAL WORLD INSTITUTE and European Fatwa Council for Halal Transactions.
